Jeff Kelly's Ash Wednesday Rain on Green Monkey
01 September 2010

For the September album of the month, Green Monkey Records are diving deep into the Green Monkey vaults to present JEFF KELLY's "Ash Wednesday Rain" from 1995.

To make it even more beautiful, they're also gonna do something they never do – have a sale! All month visitors can buy "Ash Wednesday Rain" from GMR for a mere 8 bucks (folks can still buy it from CDBaby for $13 or $19 from Amazon if they prefer to pay more – crazy, eh?).

"Ash Wednesday Rain" was head-Green Pajama JEFF KELLY's fourth solo release on Green Monkey and his first CD release. Jeff's prior solo releases were small cassette-only releases, although "Coffee in Nepal" was re-released on vinyl in Greece.

"Ash Wednesday Rain" came at a period of relative lull. Kelly and GMR Prez Tom Dyer had amicably split following the release of Kelly's "Private Electrical Storm" in 1992 (later released on the 4-CD box set "Melancholy Sun"). A long-time GREEN PAJAMAS fan contacted them with the idea of capitalizing a new release and "Ash Wednesday Rain" was born. The album, recorded solo by Jeff on his home 8-track (and maybe some 4-track), is a low key, thoughtful meditation on the state of the Kelly brain in 1995.

JEFF KELLY is the leader of THE GREEN PAJAMAS and has released eight solo albums, twenty-five GREEN PAJAMAS albums and EPs and two albums with Laura Vanderpool as THE GOBLIN MARKET. He plays shows sometimes. THE GREEN PAJAMAS' most recent release is "The Red, Red Rose EP".

The GMR streaming Album of the Month can be live-streamed each month directly from Green Monkey Records. Every month GMR will have an exciting new AotM, sometimes a GMR Superstar, sometimes something else. Always, 100% Northwest, always 100% cool. Or at least 100% weird.
