Not since Leanne Rimes and Shania Twain were at their peaks has there been a mainstream country pop artist - the pop-roots market now dominated by the more sombre likes of KT Tunstall and Mumford & Sons - so the door is wide open for the arrival of the excellent Katie Cole.
Her latest single, '(We Started A) Fire', is a joyful romp of jangly country guitar lines and upbeat rhythms supporting lustful lyrics of first love - really good fun and with an album to match.
Due to arrive on 3rd March, 'Lay It All Down' is an album that really brings the fun back to roots music - even the songs with downbeat lyrics are given a positive musical spin - with a viably upbeat country artist who's long overdue.
