Review: 'THESE RAVEN SKIES'
'These Raven Skies'

-  Album: 'These Raven Skies' -  Label: 'Black Stream Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'July 2014'

Our Rating:
One of The latest Canadian rock bands, These Raven Skies has released a soulful and satanic sounding album.

Having recently signed up with Warner Music Group, this rock group have produced an album that is harsh, bashful and beastly. We like the sense of testosterone pumping through each track, it helps strengthen the sound and further develop that hard rock style.

The tracks are filled with themes of satanic creatures by the water, buddies and brawls and of course Death!

One of the lead songs in the album is no need to worry. With its catchy hook, "my boys have got my back all night", this track grabs you by the nuts and doesn't let you go until the end. It's a hardcore husky sound that tells the story of how our lead singer can always count on his mates to back him up in a bad situation. Overall a thoroughly entertaining rock track you can image in being played during a bar brawl scene in a Quentin Tarantino film.

Whilst their work in the rock department is great and it seems is an area they are more comfortable with, for me the group really shine when they slow everything down and get all melancholic.

Open road is a great example of their abilities at playing the soft game. This much slower song from the album merges edgy rock vocals with a mellow and heavier country influence in the sound. I really like it, as listening to it you get that sense there is a caged animal, waiting to be unleashed. Therefore, these guys should have put this track nearer the top to build up some serious tension before unleashing tracks like 'No need to worry' and 'Magick Waters.'

An all round album chock full of ruckus rock tunes and heavy beats. Great vocal talent is what makes this collection of tracks stand out though. A great album and well worth a listen.
