Review: 'Healy, Kat'
'When You Are Gone EP'

-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '11th August 2014'

Our Rating:
That less is more is something Kat Healy evidently appreciates. This five track EP, which follows her 2012 debut album ‘Be Still Gentle Kind’ showcases her talent for sparse and simple compositions that place her vocals – and thus her lyrics – to the fore.

A delicate cello and soft acoustic strum are the only accompaniment to Kat’s voice at the start of ‘No Hero’, before it bursts into a light and airy chorus. ‘We are not heroes, we are just people’, she sings humbly.

She skips daintily through some charming and disarmingly honest narratives, and it’s a winning formula that shows the Scots songstrel as an artist confidently honing her craft.
