Review: 'HEYWOOD, LORETTA'
'The Boy Across The Road'

-  Label: 'LH Music'
-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: 'August 2014'

Our Rating:
Loretta Heywood is known principally for her vocals on the chill out favourite Winter in July by Bomb the Bass which she co-wrote with Tim Simenon. If you like that then you're in luck because an acoustic version of the song can also be found on this solo album.

The record also features her single A Horse With No Name, an insipid version of the blandly hummable 70’s hit by the band America.

Other key tracks include the title track, Butterfly and Suspicious Minds (not the Elvis classic but a tune she co-wrote with David Arnold) .

The latter includes the line "I fall asleep ...... everything's the same" which perfectly sums up my reaction to this collection.

The Boy Across the Road is full of laid back saccharin love songs with drowsy string arrangements that will leave you chilled but not shaken.
