Talk about buildup. The first clanging chords bend and sway before the stomping beat slams in and, oh yes, this is what we needed! A big, ballsy chunk of swampy blues rock, a la Gallon Drunk and ‘Bad Jack’ sure is bad alright. The vocals are way, way down in the mix and it’s as scuzzed up as you like, a whiskey-swillin’ no-wave tempest of glorious, blistering discord. It’s one hell of a way to kick off an EP, and there’s no let up over the remaining three tracks, which get bigger, noisier and nastier as the EP progresses.
‘Throw me a Bone’ swaggers and weaves, propelled by a barrage of primitive percussion. Brawling and bruised, it’s an aggressive and antagonistic racket that punches hard. ‘Blood on the Floor’ is nasty, and it all goes into explosive hyperdrive on the overdriven nasty scale for the closer ‘Machinery’, which is a heavy, sludgy din on megalithic proportion and inches into Fudge Tunnel territory with its clattering snare that cuts through the wall of distortion. It’s also fucking blistering.
