Review: 'Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines'
'Ocean Wave'

-  Album: 'Songs of the British Isles' -  Label: 'Sony Classical Music'
-  Genre: 'Soundtrack' -  Release Date: 'November 2014'

Our Rating:
Packed full of stirring tunes and melodies that have survived the passing of the years, this album from the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines is a celebration of traditional music and values.

Released for the 350th Anniversary of the Marines' founding, it's essentially 50 minutes of patriotic tunes played by one of the most precise and brilliant brass bands in the world.

If you want an example of what to expect, the album ends with a huge arrangement of Rule Britannia - but this is only the tip of the patriotic iceberg.

Subtitled 'Songs if the British Isles', the theme extends to tracks such as 'In Ireland', 'Flower of Scotland' and even the on the nose 'Famous Songs of the British Isles' mini-medley.

It's a release that folds well into a period of time when commemorations are happening for the 100th anniversary of the start of the first world war as well as the founding of the Marines, and most importantly this is goo music and good flag-waving fun.
