Review: 'TRIUMPH OF THE WILD'
'We Come With The Dust'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '14th April 2015'

Our Rating:
With an album that takes its title from a line in Woody Guthrie's Pastures Of Plenty, this dusty duo from San Diego give due notice that they come fully immersed in America's folk-blues heritage.

From California To The Crossroads to A Hobo Knows, their fan-funded sophomore release is essentially a set of ten travelling songs written on and about a five month trip through Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee.

They keep things simple with the Joplin-esque singing come screeching of Christy Barrett getting some rudimentary backing by Ryan Schilling on harmonica, guitar and back-up vocals.

It's an admirably no frills approach but they seem to take all their ideas from traditional , and therefore predictable, sources rather than drawing from personal experience.

As such, what promises more turns out to be nothing much to write home about.
