Review: 'RavenEye'
'Breaking Out EP'

-  Label: 'Rook Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '11th May 2015'

Our Rating:
As the saying goes, if you can’t be original, be good. Ok, maybe it doesn’t, but there probably should be a saying that goes like that, and if there was, it would probably be RavenEye’s motto.

At just 25, Oli Brown has had a career many would envy, releasing four solo albums and working and touring with big names like Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter and Joe Satriani. And now he’s pulled a band together. On this, their debut EP, they show no signs of spearheading a rock revolution any time soon. Or ever. But they’ve scored a slot supporting Slash on tour, and it’s hard to deny they’re a quality act.

With some chunky Zeppelin-esque riffs and an adept absorption of classic rock tropes, they’ve got the whole swaggering, tight jeans and denim jackets sound nailed, and keep the more indulgent aspects of the genre in check. In other words, no surprises, but nicely done.
