Review: 'Kila'
'Saus Síos'

-  Album: 'Saus Síos' -  Label: 'Kila Records'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '3rd July 2015'

Our Rating:
I’ve no idea what these songs are about: the lyrics are all in Gaelic as are the majority of titles. Those that aren’t are abstract or bizarre, giving little away ‘Length of Space’, ‘Mikar Dypnic’s Transient Nights (in adult situation). Not that linguistic barriers should prove any major impediment to anyone being able to enjoy ‘Saus Síois’ (which transalates as ‘up down’ and reflects the contrasts and eclecticism that about on the 11 tracks here.

Mellow, melodic instrumentals like ‘Magic Lir’ contrast with the rowdy roustabout folk of the title track and the Celtic jiggery of ‘Jigs’. Elsewhere, hectic world music and Latin grooves blur together and the frantically-paced folk-punk of ‘Skinheads’ isn’t short on action.

What it all adds up to is an album that’s inventive and entertaining.
