Review: 'Theatre Royal'
'You Sleep (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '25th May 2015'

Our Rating:
The past few years have seen Theatre Royal release a succession of albums and EPs that have firmly established them as producers of high-quality melodic indie of a quintessentially English strain. And it’s the quality that really does shine through: given their steady flow of material, they could be forgiven the occasional dud track. But their latest EP, offering shows no diminishment in the standard of tunesmithery.

Lead track ‘You Sleep’ is a classic sunburst of Byrds-like 60s pop, rich in harmony and clean, jangling guitars. The wandering bassline accentuates the floaty, dreamy qualities of the song.

‘Until the Morning After’ combines uptempo folk elements with the crisp indie pop of The Smiths, and ‘Days Grow Hotter’ counters a lyrical wistfulness with a gloriously easy melody.

If only every band was half as consistent as Theatre Royal!
