Review: 'Virtue in Vain'
'For All You Know is the Mask I Wore'

-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal'

Our Rating:
It’s not called heavy metal for nothing: this progressive Cardiff crew bash out the blastbeats and pump out as barrage of brutal riffs. The vocals are by turns anguished screams and guttural, bowels-of-the-earth deep-throated growls.

A hint of a melody raises its head during ‘Left Behind’, which also features a delicate mid-section that leads into a soaring post-rock progressive finale. It’s dark, but the assault is laced with glimmers of light.

The fact there is texture and detail amidst the tidal wave of abrasive noise serves to set them apart from so many of their peers, and these juxtapositions, and the transitions between gentle and all-out rage are deftly accomplished.
