Our Rating:
So, the bio looks like this: ‘The Winachi Tribe is a collection of exceptional musicians and producers who have performed and toured with artists as diverse as Ian Brown, Black Grape, Happy Mondays, Massive Attack and The Stereo MCs.They bring together urban swagger, soul and funk to create unique electro-funk grooves; a sonic soul collective who are unrestrained by boundaries or formulas, either musically or culturally.’

I manage to stop scoffing long enough to give it a listen, at least, and discover that ‘Plant the Seed’ is a chilled-sounding slice of urban soul that bounces on a deep mid-tempo groove I can take or leave. It’s rather hard to swallow the sentiment, though, at least in context, and I’m not buying it.

Are these guys really battling against social deprivation, scrapping and scraping, ‘just trying to get by like you and everybody else? The slick production doesn’t exactly say ‘struggling’ either. It’s simply too self-satisfied-sounding to be truly convincing, and the lazy musical arrangement stirs little other than boredom.
