Our Rating:
I was given this CD by the bands somewhat legendary manager at the recent Chris Spedding show. We got talking at the merch table after the gig at the same venue where I saw Du Bellows play at the start of the year, when they opened for Garland Jeffreys.

The opening song on this EP, Dry Flowers is a rather wind-blown almost funk rock song with some nice and rather tricky guitar parts, plus some rather heartfelt vocals from Jade Williams who is one of Jimmy Page's favourite new singers.

Otherside slows things down a bit and is a bit stop-start. It seems to have been very carefully put together as a message to a lost loved one with Jade's vocals sounding like an English Grace Slick in places. There's also a rather elaborate backing with a cool wailing guitar solo battling for prominence against the vocals and drums and keyboards, but overall it's a pretty cool eulogy.

Spin takes us musically into almost Paris, Texas-style territory: soft and laid back to begin with, before it slowly starts to build layer upon layer of sounds and the vocals get more and more powerful before they bring it right back down as they know we need those peaks and troughs to make a song like this work.

They save the best for last with Isa Du Bellow, which has some almost choral vocals at the start before it breaks out into neo-country rock territory with some great drums and guitar that blend nicely with the fantastic vocals. It's the song I most want to keep coming back to so I can make sure I've heard everything that's going on.
