Review: 'SENSOR, TREVOR'
'Texas Girls And Jesus Christ'

-  Label: 'Jagjaguwar'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '25th March 2016'

Our Rating:
"If I'm trying to be anything, it's to be sincere" declares this young singer-songwriter from Illinois.

Like The Tallest Man On Earth, the Dylanesque affectations are displayed as a badge of honour. This is a singer who wants the words to matter and despite the roguish title of the EP he is clearly in earnest when considering what roles Christ and Satan play on the modern psyche.

The keynote song is Nothing Is Fair which sees Sensor in full on protest mode presenting a sceptical perspective on America as a model of liberty - "I was told to believe in a country that is free", he observes with undisguised bitterness.

The 18 minute duration of this EP is too brief to adequately judge if Sensor's professed sincerity is genuine or not. "I've proven who I am so many times", he assures us on Pacing The Cage but I can't help wondering how accurate this is. It does strike me that the songs evoke a level of experience well in excess of his modest 22 years.
