Its a common trait amongst upcoming singer-songwriters to be a little po-faced, taking their sound very seriously, and sounding quite similar to their peers while trying oh so hard to be different. Joe Rhinewine, a clinical psychologist from the US whose music relies on humour, originality and freedom, couldn’t be further from that archetype.
Rhinewine’s songs show that songs don’t have to be serious to be taken seriously, and they prove that there’s more than one way to be an independent singer-songwriter. Inspired by a retro funk and blues sound, Rhinewine is also influenced by the free flowing nature of music by Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and other musicians of their ilk.
As such, his genre is touch to pin down. But if you’re looking for something a little different with a grungy, rootsy feel, new EP ‘Songs from NowHere’ is out on Amazon now.
