BeX, I’ve learned, is not only a compound analgesic and a municipality in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, but an emerging singer and musician, who grew up on the Isle of Wight listening to the likes of Eva Cassidy, Carole King, and The Corrs. These artists have influenced her music, along with artists she’s picked up along the way, including P!nk, Sheryl Crow and Anastacia, as well as The Dixie Chicks and Lady Antebellum. Christ, talk about a bucketful of blandness. You’ll forgive me for not bounding with excitement at the prospect of checking out her own ‘unique’ blend of soulful pop, rock and Americana.
And so it is, having trained as a professional singer, dancer and actress in London, she’s thrusting her debut single into the world. It sounds a bit like Roxette or Hepburn. It’s not terrible, and certainly not as bad as I’d expected.
