Review: 'Hologram Teen'
'Marsangst EP'

-  Label: 'Happy Robots Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '12th August 2016'

Our Rating:
Hologram Teen is the electronic music project of former Stereolab keyboardist Morgane Lhote (1995-2001). This four-tracker is the debut release for Hologram Teen, and it showcases a bouncy mainland European disco-pop style which draws on elements of French house, referencing acts like Deadmaus5, Add N to X, and Death in Vegas, and, not surprisingly Stereolab.

Stuttering minibeats beats give way to a bumping dance groove on ‘Hex These Rules’, and bends the dynamic to create an upbeat workout that’s easy-going. The title track is largely representative: an undulating vintage synth line works a smooth groove that’s good to nod along to, but doesn’t make any effort to go anywhere, although it doesn’t really need to. The darker ‘Franmaster Glash’ is the pick of the bunch, a shuddering ‘Flat Eric’ bass and busy beat underpinning a theatrically gothic lead motif to novel effect.
