What does a band have to do to get signed? Newcastle-based four-piece Them Things have been getting a fair bit of attention: They’ve got a string off well-received singles and oft-watched videos up on YouTube, and their latest single, ‘Mythomania’ is a thunderous psychedelic-tinged hard rock behemoth which has already been picked up by BBC Radio 1 as one of Annie Mac’s ‘New Names’ tips and has received numerous plays on her evening show. And they’ve also caught the eye of Catfish and the Bottlemen, securing themselves a support slot for their 5,000-capacity concert in Newcastle’s Times Square with fellow Geordies Little Comets at the end of a tour that will see These Things visit major UK cities and Paris. And somehow, they’re still unsigned.
Maybe it’s better that way. As masters of their own destiny, they can continue making songs just the way they want, with no-one to answer to. And more tracks like ‘Mythomania’ can only be a good thing.
