Promising ‘a shimmering guitar anthem for long summer days, blending the best influences of the 90s Brit Pop era to create a long maze of a tune to get lost in, Kentish / London four piece Righteous Reprobates have set expectations high. ‘Scarlet Sky’ isn’t a bad tune, and throws in some rock leanings of a 70s vintage in with the jangly pop stylings, which owe as much to 60s Britpop as 90s. But it does plod a bit, and feels rather too in thrall to lumpen mid-tempo pedestrianism as ground out by the likes of Oasis and Shed 7, meaning that despite lofty ambitions, it fails to fly.
