Review: 'SKINNY GIRL DIET'
'Heavy Flow'

-  Label: 'Fiasco Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '23rd September 2016'

Our Rating:
Girl passion, attitude and a good dose of punk power brought to you by Skinny Girl Diet. They have been building a buzz for six years now and when you're getting tipped for big things by Viv Albertine and Iggy Pop the chances are you might be onto a good thing.

In fact opener 'Comedown In' hints that there might be more than just standard riot grrrl influences at play here. Sound wise this is as much a mash-up of shoegaze and Hole as anything else, albeit a proper noisy one and this works really well. There is still room for a band like Lush, at least in a melodic sense, to come through in the music.

That is not to say they don’t just take the gloves off and simply make an unholy racket, which they do on tracks like 'Yeti', 'Eyes That Paralyse', 'Wolfpack' and 'DMT' to name just a few. A track like 'Fix Me' tells me they may just have been more influenced by the song writing of Kurt Cobain than Courtney Love which makes sense really. Ditto with 'Pretty Song'. It is hard to say just how big the hole will be that this set burns into pop music history but right now this is one hot ember.
