‘Run It Right into the Wall’ is the fourth album from Seattle’s Massy Ferguson, and promises ‘steady, blue-collar alt-country with an 80s college rock bend.’ Hailing from Seattle, they’ve had access to Jack Endino’s studio, and the album’s production duties were handled by Johnny Sangster, who’s worked with Mudhoney, The Posies and Gerald Collier, amongst others. There’s nothing grungy about ‘Run It Right into the Wall, but there’s also a distinct lack of pretence about the workin’ man, good times rock tunes – as befits a band who took their name from a farming equipment company.

So, perhaps as you’d expect, much of the material sounds very like Bruce Springsteen, with the singer aping the clenched jaw, singing through the teeth style of the Boss. With tales of the everyday and tunes that are solid, sturdy and delivered with drive, it’s not hard to grasp the appeal.
