Review: 'HEY! HELLO!'
'Hey! Hello! Too!'

-  Label: 'Round Records'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '23rd September 2016'

Our Rating:
Hey! Hello! is Ginger Wildheart's disposable plastic pop-punk offshoot. From the off, 'Hey! Hello! Too!' is all Autotuned spiky bouncy fare. It's fun and disposable and in some ways shopping mall boutique background music all at once.

This Ain't Love is a bit like Helen Love crossed with the Killer Barbies if they wanted to be the new Pussycat Dolls. It has all that Hyper Japan thing going on too but at times with a vocalist/drummer, Ai, who sounds like she wants to be Cher in the late 90's. They then do a mind-melding cover of Glass Of Champagne, the old Sailor hit, making it go all day glo spunky pop.

Kids opens with a repeated line of "Make No Mistake about it Kids are gonna screw you up" set to crunchy guitars and some smart lyrics about childhood with a machine-tooled backing to chant along to. Forever Young, however, sounds like some god awful euro ballad turned into this Hyper Japan day glo-punk oddity. Yeuch.

Loud & Fucking Clear is a strident message delivered with some good raging guitar and shouted vocals. It sounds a lot less processed than most of this album and is all the better for it. Can't Stand You (Hurting Me) is a break-up song as they walk away from an abusive partner in a poppy punk song. Sadly, it somehow sounds totally insincere as the music doesn't match the lyrics.

Let's Get Emotional to the sort of heavy sing-along rock that you should bounce along to. Well probably not, actually, but it doesn't stop it being a good bouncy pop-rock song. A History of Lovers is another punky pop Euro hit type thing with that almost anime cartoon-y thing going on.

Body Parts is Hello! Kitty! waving cat day-glo pop-rock and I have to say I'm a bit bored of this album as it just doesn't do it for me. I don't think I'm even close to being the target audience for Hey! Hello! Oh and I still might like your body parts too! The album closes with Perfect and I am perfectly happy for it to end with a proper old-fashioned rock song. This balls-out rocker is a bit of a relief as I have to say this is not my favourite work by Ginger, much as I dig him as a rule.
