With the follow-up to debut ‘I Believe’ (nothing to do with EMF or Robson & Jerome, thankfully), Manchester’s We Were Strangers show a skill for cultivating atmosphere and displaying a sensitivity that’s touching without being wet. Accompanied for the most part by a sparse, chiming guitar which weaves and floats delicately, Stefan Melbourne gives an aching vocal performance which is hard not to find affecting. Subtle, but strong.
