Having lost confidence in the future, more and more artists are turning to the past for inspiration. In the process they are replicating an era they know only second hand through old records and You Tube videos.
Alexis Morel, a French musician and producer, joins this happy breed. He is fired up by Phil Spector's wall of sound and the jangly harmonies of The Byrds.
The result of these influences, released on a DIY label based in Paris, is the acid lounge pop of girl group, Gloria. Their debut album begins inauspiciously with the line "Baby, I'm braindead".
Probably the best thing you can say is that their sound is not as awful as it threatens to be but at the same time it's still hard to see point of all this fuzzy faux-grooviness.
