-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '31st March 2017'

Our Rating:
Stolen Body continue to flood the market with cheap tat and good for them! Actually, that's a bit harsh. It probably is relatively cheap but tat it ain't. This is interesting music made by talented individuals who are clearly passionate about what they do.

This album is something of a departure from previous albums I have reviewed from the label in that it is more jazz than psych although, beyond the presence of saxophone and awkward time signatures I am not sure I would really classify it as jazz per se? This is The Evil Usses second album and sees them paired with John Dieterich (Deerhoof, Powerdove and Half Japanese) on production duties.

The album starts off with grown men grunting and then goes off on some mad (cape)r which is the titular track. Then comes 'Buzz Gots Beef' which brings to mind Captain Beefheart minus the vocals. 'Gambino' brings an oriental motif to bear over some heavy drums, crazy electric guitar and sax skronk before dipping into Floyd territory.

There is a lot going on with this band, that's for damn sure. 'Pre-Op Pop' thuds about like a couple of blokes in the ring attempting to stay on their feet and 'Somebody Loves Beastie' is a bit of an amble about before the next bout. 'Freya' goes all misty eyed replete with lovely sax work and 'Bonus Time' has a post-rock vibe to it.

You wonder where the album will wander next? Well it goes into more subdued and I guess you could say jazzy waters with the final three tracks, although you might say that it drifts off a bit aimlessly? It is quite difficult to know just how good The Evil Usses are and I suspect they are probably clueless about that as well but this is a good album and if you keep listening, it may just start to make sense.
