'Personal Belongings'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: 'March 2017'

Our Rating:
Straight out of Yawnsville USA, John Michael Hersey's seventh album is an uninspiring collection of pseudo blues, watered down rock, lightweight folk and insipid country.

In the twelve tunes he writes in the first person without revealing anything genuinely personal about his belongings or his feelings.

Instead he prefers platitudes to the tune of: I think about you - I think about me - I wonder where the time went - I wonder if I dream too much etc. etc.

In Trying Times he sings "I wish that I could write a song to show you just the way I feel - how my love for you is real".

If this expresses a true desire then ditching the writing by numbers sentimentalism and introducing a bit of sincerity would be a good start.
