Our Rating:
Jim Keaveny was raised in Fargo country in Bismarck North Dakota on the Missouri River. He's a rebel soul who follows in the classic troubadour tradition of living with a hand to mouth existence.

His musical career is funded by constant tours and working in short term jobs which include stints as a cook and a graveyard maintenance man.

In 2009 he built a house in Terlingua, a remote desert town in west Texas from where he composed his fifth album Out Of Time (2014) and now this new collection of Tex-Americana tunes infused with a hint of punk attitude and some lively Mariachi rhythms.

The dozen anti-consumerist and pro-humanist tunes consist of toe-tappers interspersed with talking blues with accordion, slide guitar, trumpet and harmonica adding the instrumental pizzazz.

As a guy who is clearly well versed in self sufficiency I kept hoping Keaveny would reveal more about what makes him tick. For example, I expected a little more wisdom than observations like: "Good times they come and good times they be going" (Good Times).

It's all quite personable but by settling for generic stuff about love/leaving or keeping body and soul together he plays things a little too safe for my liking.
