Being a sucker for split releases, this nifty flexi release was onto a winner before I even got my lugs round the two short, sharp blasts of all-girl punk rock goodness it contains.
The Baby Seals – comprising 2 sisters and a mate – may only have been around just over a year, but they’ve already snagged some impressive support slots, and ‘Vibrator’ – a celebration of masturbation – illustrates precisely why. It’s two and a half minutes of guitar-driven effervescence and as catchy as hell.
Beverley Kills have been around considerably longer, but ‘Intimidation’ isn’t the sound of a band growing jaded after a decade, taking a poppier, more melodic approach to punk. With layered harmonies cascading over a driving rhythm section, there are hints of ‘Celebrity Skin’ era Hole about it – only it’s way better.
