Review: 'SHEER MAG'
'Need To Feel Your Love'

-  Label: 'Static Shock Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '14th July 2017'

Our Rating:
Everything about Sheer Mag from Philadelphia screams early 1970s pre-punk pop/rock. Personally, this is not an era or genre that I have any great nostalgia for and this debut LP does little to change my view.

The cheap production values are perhaps designed to capture the band's raw live energy but it does them no favours and makes for a fairly flat and repetitive sound.

This also negatively emphasises the vocal limitations of Tina Halliday. Her strident, screechy vocals leave little room for lyrical nuances as she yells over uninspiring riffs to the dozen tunes, all of which derive from much the same template.

The tracks were apparently written to assert the value of love against toxic hatred in world but tunes like Just Can't Get Enough and Turn It Up are every bit as predictable and clichéd as the titles.

Proof perhaps that sometime love is not all you need.
