Review: 'DOLZCEK, DUBI'
'Dubi In Space Part 1: The Emerald Gauntlet'

-  Label: 'Stolen Body'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '17th November 2017'

Our Rating:
This is a pretty crazy concept album right here and Dubi Dolzcek's second long player after "Dubi Dolczek & the Haunted Lagoon".

Vaguely speaking, the concept is the space travels of a teenage greaseball and opening track "Only Human" finds our hero stranded on a planet with grey-haired babies. "Laying Low In Bug City" is a pretty cool skronk and "Nice To Meteor" is old time rag meets Tom Waits.

"Laser Dojo" is about as milkshake greaseball in an outer galaxy as it's possible to get. The spaceship with flames down the side is parked up outside with the frictionless engine running, ready to hit the drive-in. "Martian Lady" is country with sci-fi synth effects burbling over the top. "Jayanubu" seems to be a ballad in an alien language and "I Won't Remember You" is sort of wonky Hawaiian.

The album rounds off with the more traditional fare of "Coming In To Land" which sets us up nicely for Part 2, no doubt. As far as space-dub jazz doo-wop sci-fi concept albums go it is probably the best one I've heard this year and it would surely make (in CD form) a groovy stocking filler. Frank Zappa would be proud.
