Our Rating:
El Goodo are a lazy Welsh psychedelic band" named after Big Star's 'The Ballad of El Goodo' who come across like the missing link between The Beach Boys and Super Furry Animals. This disc is released on SFA keyboard player Cian Ciaran's label.

Despite a relatively brief playing time of 37 minutes, the beat combo's third album took 8 years to complete due to fraught group relations between the six members that were significantly less harmonious than their vocal arrangements. Fortunately there's no trace of these difficulties in the smooth 60s influenced lounge-style arrangements recorded in a derelict cinema on analogue 16-track equipment.

These breezy retro-pop tunes frequently evoke Ennio Morricone soundtracks to Sergeo Leone's spaghetti westerns rather than the world of travelling animal circuses rendered in the cover art.

Ironically though, the best song is a more modest, yet touching, tribute to the parents of brothers Elliot and Jason Jones called Susan & Bill.

I'd wager that more of such hazy domesticated bliss rather a focus on the widescreen vistas would have improved the final product no end.
