The wheels of Davesnewbike began spinning as a duo comprising singer-songwriter Tom Houston and the guitarist Kris Jozajtis. They then became a four-piece through the addition of Sam Wilson on bass and Simon Jaquet on percussion.
As the tacky name suggests, sophisticated arrangements are not their forte. Instead, they specialize in modern folk, twangy country, soft rock, polite punk, bad tangos, and half-assed psychedelia.
In Houston's tongue-in-cheek word play he relishes the possibility of "mixing metaphors with tired clichés" (Hanging On Like Salt).

On The Cobbler, the lead single, the offer to "put soul into your boots..... and laces in your shoe" could just be enough to turn some wee lassie's head.
On other tracks we hear of a tryst with Lady Macbeth, find out how Candy Floss fuels the memory, take a journey From Norfolk To Nashville and , on Stone, are even treated a slight re-writing of Joni Mitchell's 'Woodstock'.
It's all very much an acquired taste but a big point in their favor is the manner in which lively, good humor always triumphs over tired cynicism.
