Review: 'JACKSON, PHIL'
'C Sides'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '16th February 2018'

Our Rating:
Phil Jackson doesn't believe in wasting time as evidenced by the fact that each song for this album was written and recorded in one day. This was either done near his home in Suffolk & Norfolk in the UK or in Nashville Tennessee USA.

Despite the American connection, the record is English to the core as revealed in a film made to accompany some of the songs. The mini documentary comes complete with some fairly un-illuminating videos and a self deprecating commentary by Jackson himself, partly delivered while eating chips on the seafront at Felixstowe.

Songs include one about a Duck Farm, an ode to a "randy sailor" (Willy Deben) and a bitter break up tune (Nothing To You).

You get the sense that Jackson intends all this to be quirky, emotional, heartbreaking and experimental but despite his best intentions it falls short on all counts.
