This Moscow-based band was formed in 2012 and first released their debut six-track EP ‘Initial Link’ in March 2013. Here now is a reissue in a remixed, remastered format.
All Artificial Waves members are full time engineers and researchers in computer science and engineering which accounts for the methodical approach to the math rock.
None are singers so they play to their musical strengths and leave the emotional aspects to the listeners' imagination.
The punchy riffs of Sonic Core start things off promisingly but the other five tracks follow a more predictable quiet-loud pattern.
Occasional strings and piano adds a little variety to the shimmering guitars and crescendos but more metal, less finesse would make this a more exciting proposition.
