Kalli Ma (producers/DJs Danny Sanchez and Jeremy Sliwerski) are pitched as ‘a hybrid of analogue and digital electronics swerving from Techno’s rhythmic synths and structures to the harsh but beautiful energy of Acid and EBM’. And yes, its all in the mix on their fourth track to be released.
‘Offence-Defence’ is energetic, but also claustrophobic, as skittering synths flit across a driving beat. The vocals – icy, monotone – are perfect for completing a sound that’s got 80s futurism all over it. Yes, it harks back to the era when neon green on a black background was considered space-age and keytars were the apex of innovation and cool (and, of course, when ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ was released). And it’s pretty good, too.
