Our Rating:
This is Dorian Sorriaux's first solo ep, he hasn't left Blues Pills but the material on this EP doesn't fit with the bands music, it also seems rather different to his label SoulSeller records normal fare.

Now as I only own a huge poster of Blues Pills given to me in a Heavy Metal record shop in Sofia Bulgaria as a reward for finding the shop but none of the bands records I won't compare these four songs with his band's music anyway.

The artwork for the EP looks like a mid-70's Swedish prog album something like Tradgard Algarnas Departed or something and is almost at odds with the gentle acoustic folk on the ep.

From the opening Huitoto it's clear that Dorrian loves the singer songwriters and guitarists of the 60's folk boom and also that while he might be trying to sound like Neil Young and Bert Jansch these songs also end up sounding a lot like Chris Cacavas' solo albums Anonymous and New Improved Pain. That takes nothing away from how good these songs sound or the way they make me wonder if he will find what he's looking for down by that river or not.

The influences mentioned really come to the fore on the title track Hungry Ghost which of course makes the song well worth listening too as he tries to figure out how to leave someone he's clearly still in love with and will she be there for him.

Need To Love is plangent and rather gentle love letter to someone who needs help getting them to a place where they can love and move beyond the pain they are in. The ep closes with Hello My Friend that opens with a guitar tone that is almost Simon and Garfunkel's Sound Of Silence updated with some rather starker lyrical content hoping that his friend will be there for him in those moments of darkness that reminds me of both Chris Cacavas again and also MG Boulter it's rather engaging and draws you into Dorians world and the pain he is in.
