Review: 'HERON, ROB & THE TEA PAD ORCHESTRA'
'Soul Of My City'

-  Label: 'Tea Pad Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '1st February 2019'-  Catalogue No: 'TPCD006'

Our Rating:
The Tea Pad Orchestra formed seven years ago by four friends studying at Newcastle University and, with their heady blend of western swing, country blues, rockabilly and ragtime, the emphasis of their fourth album is on fun, fun, fun.

The camp Life Is A Drag is their 'life is a Cabaret (old son)' for the cross dressing party set and titles like Holy Moly (I'm In Love Again) and Drinking & Carrying On are self explanatory.

The vaudeville inspired call and response device in these, and other, tunes seems designed for maximum audience interaction.

The thrust of Let's Go Back In Time, Man is that they were born out of time. Not only does 21st century music not cut the biscuit but also, in the title track, they bemoan the gentrification of their neighbourhood.

The stubborn resistance to change for change's sake is nostalgic and playful up to a point but the novelty value quickly wears thin.
