They describe themselves as ‘disco rock’, and Christ, this is funky. Where do I take this? I fucking hate funky shit as a rule, but then, this is cutty guitar funk that traces a lineage from Gang of Four through Radio 4. Lyrically, initial winces about girlfriends and mundane indie meh and overtaken by the edge of suicidal noose-tying.
It may not be ‘miles apart from anything around today’, but ‘Tea Party’ definitely has something that sets it apart.
