Review: 'Ruled by Raptors'
'Ouroboros (EP)'

-  Label: 'Pulse Music'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '7th June 2019'

Our Rating:
Ruled by Raptors promise ‘gritty intricate, heavy-laden rock with soaring choruses’ on this, their debut EP, citing Biffy Clyro, Reuben, and The Xcerts. But these comparisons sell the band short: they combine quality songwriting with some serious nuts, and it’s refreshingly direct without being overly raw.

It seems they’ve taken the lessons learned from their previous incarnation as post-hardcore band Digits and refined things without going all Kerrang! Radio emo polish (something the final track, ‘Time’ teeters perilously close to, but in context, its forgivable and does at least boast an epic chorus).

The remainder, though, is seriously strong: ‘Promises’ brings strangled, interweaving lead guitar lines that yield to mega-chunky nu-metal ballast, while ‘Dux’ combines math-rock and grunge, and has an epic mid-section that transitions from a detailed, textured mesh of guitars into a thunderous blast, while the vocals balance grit and melody.
