Review: 'Plastic Jeezus'
'"Quite Heavy Things"'

-  Label: 'Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '6.7.19.'

Our Rating:
This is the second of the ukulele bands I've reviewed today and Plastic Jeezus take a rather different approach to The Pukes. This lot sound for more in the Anti-folk tradition than punk and like many anti-folk bands they have a good sense of humour on show in the songs. This also came with a nice handwritten press release from the bands singer Simon Fernand. I really ought to review this album using my first online name of Bejesus rather than Simonovitch.

The opening The Ballad of a petty criminal is a nice little story song about well the sorts of crimes that drive you to physically harm someone for well putting the milk in before the tea say.

Moaning With Pleasure is like Corporal Machine And The Bombers have taken a holiday and gone down to Bournemouth and rocked up at a really ropey hotel and got the treatment. Now they can moan about it for the rest of the trip, It really has that similar cheeky chappy take on what's happened while also having that South coast sound that reminds me of Pog as they moan about you walking and texting yeah let's all moan together now oh no not that kind of moaning.

A Father's Advice has a sort of south coast skank to it a bit like Zegema Beach from along the coast in Portsmouth as they tell us we shouldn't take our advice from a song, well why not it's more sensible than getting advice from politicians.

Leg Day is having a go at some bloke who always says it Leg Day and must tell everyone about what he does at the gym and over posts in general.

Part Crustacean has a funky bassline bringing the song in and a very nice keyboard and has me scratching my head as to which songs it most reminds me of other than Dodge Vegematic while Simon sings about how he has fallen in Love with a woman whose Half Crustacean which might just be code for the fact she lives in Sandbanks.

The mini album closes with Patchwork Covers (Demo) that lets you play name that tune at a good crack as they nick lyrics and tunes from all over the place from Radiohead to Golden Earring and well beyond this is cool and clever and quite knowing and sounds like it would be great fun live.
