Review: 'Spring.Fall.Sea'
'Time + Tide'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '6th September 2019'

Our Rating:
Although they relocated to London last year (doesn’t everyone?), Spring.Fall.Sea formed in Bangkok – a base that served them more than adequately while they undertook a globe-spanning tour in 2016, just a year after their formation. They’ve already made inroads into North America, with a 40-date tour in 2017. That kind of grass-roots exposure is the way to build a fanbase, and while it’s bloody hard work, their commitment to graft is clearly evidence to their commitment to the music, also.

Theirs is an unusual hybrid, which takes the post-hardcore template and lobs a bunch of pop and electronica into the mix. All that touring also means they’ve honed their sound well in advance of this, their debut release.

The title track which provides the introduction is a semi-ambient interlude with glitchy, popping electro drum beats, paving the way for the high-energy ‘Strangers’. It’s strong on melody and goes all-out on the anthemic chorus, and for all the screamo backing vocals, it’s a big, instantly accessible radio-friendly rock tune. Nothing wrong with that per se, but the material on offer here could have been released at any time in the last 15 years. Easy on the ear but undemanding, ‘Time + Tide’ is just more lively pop for emos that’s out of time and likely to get washed away in the endless tide of sameness.
