Review: 'A CHOIR OF GHOSTS'
'An Ounce Of Gold (single)'

-  Label: 'Greywood Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '18th October 2019'

Our Rating:
I don’t usually review singles but the promise of a folk tune emanating from deep in the heart of a Scandinavian forest was irresistible. However, the fact that the video is partly shot in an underground car park and an anonymous office block indicates that any woody origins have been severely compromised. Life is full of disappointments.

Trees are only visible in the final scene after bearded singer ‘James’ has lamented about having lost his way and being unable to find a home.

Despite citing Kurt Cobain as an influence, there’s nothing remotely grungy or confrontational about this track. In fact it is more bright pop than dark folk so any negative emotions are tempered by a glimmer of optimism : “The days are grey but the sun’s still out”.

It’s not terrible but it’s far removed from what I expected and wanted to hear.
