Review: 'Hjálmtýsson, Daniel'
'Colouring a Cloud (single)'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '19th April 2021'

Our Rating:
Dressed in black and wearing shades, Daníel Hjálmtýsson’s public image is closely aligned with the dark, brooding atmosphere of his music.

This single was recorded in Reykjavik and mastered in Los Angeles. It serves as a taster for further releases which are planned for later in 2021.

Hjálmtýsson sings of battling personal demons and challenging his own limits; “What if I want to fly close to the sun?” he asks rhetorically.

In the past, he has worked with Belgian artists Aldo Struyf and Lyenn as well as the Red Limo String Quartet from The Netherlands all of whom have been involved at some point with The Mark Lanegan Band.

Lanegan himself is both an obvious influence and an admirer, praising the Icelander’s music for its neo-gothic qualities and the PR team gush over the “dark, introspective poetry laced with a heavy ambiance and groove”.

Not party music then!
