Our Rating:
German readers will probably know Niklas Wandt best as the DJ on WDR 3's Jazz and World music program. While for me the first time I had heard any of Niklas Wandt's music was with Neuzeitliche Bodenbelage on their Der Grosse Preis album I reviewed last year.

The album opens with a radio announcer introducing the first piece in German the very atmospheric Der Glaserne Tag and as the percussive elements come into play there are keyboard and synth sounds as well as some long tones, that are thankfully nowhere near the 36 hours or so it's taken me to get through the first tune, that narration almost sounds like the voiceover at the start of a bleak Sci-fi film and once the tune breaks down it's as if they have launched into space and are now floating towards a new destiny.

Durch Den Spalt is a tune about insomnia with an English narration about Insomnia that has the sort of drum pattern and keyboard stabs that would keep you awake at night with some cool laconic German vocals and before the space age jazz section with some German Narration. I really must work on learning some more German as knowing what they are singing and talking about might be helpful.

Lo Spettro has deep tribal drumming and mantra chant style vocals and keyboards and noises coming and going a bit like United Future Organization as some classic funky sound effect noises and sine waves come and go.

Wo Es War a song and slow march through the philosophy of sounds that make up the beats to open the mind to Psychoanalysis through the power of music to lose your inhibitions too with in the tribal mantra of sound this will open you up.

Kusnacht or the best rehab you can get, total tribal musical immersion in the power of positive drumming re-wire your circuits while this flows through you like Sun Ra bird calls. I'd love to understand the poem at the end.

Solar Musli Is a reworking of the morning prayer for the sun following ancient rhythms and patterns for renewal, gentle crescendos, ghostly voices, as that sun slowly rises once more, strung out on that long tone the bass notes scraping and drawing you into a very different place in time for a few final words.

The album closes with Am Rande that sounds like the outro music to a dark twisted film, possibly the one from 1927, taking us to the edge of the world and beyond, bringing vocal contortions weaving into the cymbals and strings that are instantly recognizable that brings to a close a real listening experience of an album.
