Review: 'Ammo'
'A Cold War City'

-  Label: 'Mourning Sun Records/Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '10.12.21.'

Our Rating:
Ammo is a Los Angeles based Musician and photographer who has previously been involved in Black Flamingo and Tete as well as founding Plag Presents a platform for female musicians and LGBTQ community voices to be heard. I am reviewing the current single along with the earlier Rose And Crown single.

A Cold War City is the second single by Ammo and it evokes the claustrophobia and despair many felt during the cold war as the looming mutually assured destruction hung over everything and every day life, this has an ethereal dreamy quality punctuated every once in a while by the drums firing off a salvo or two, set against the doomy synths this has a taut edge to it.

Earlier single Rose And Crown doesn't sound like an advert for a big old Victorian Gin Palace being far more glacial than the title suggests, this is very laid back electronica with wispy vocals and a glossy sheen to help make you feel quite relaxed.

Total Recall is Ammo's tribute to the late great Adrian Borland of The Sound this is dreamy ethereal and quite simply a glacially beautiful tribute to an influential and very cool musician, that thankfully doesn't sound as murky as The Sound did when I saw them at the Clarendon Ballroom back in the 80's, this has an almost classical figure underpinning it musically.
