Our Rating:
Grab your partners and a bottle of Old Kentucky Whiskey for full enjoyment of this old timey fiddle and banjo duo. The latter, as we are reliably informed in the track of this title, makes you ” young and frisky”

Ten of the thirteen tunes are instrumentals with only Shenandoah and Ready For The Times To Get Better being fully-fledged songs. All tracks show off the exceptional musicianship of these two Scots.

Hannah Read is now based in Brooklyn, NY. having moved stateside to study American fiddle styles. She has toured extensively, performing solo and collaborating with a wide range of musicians as well as being one of 10 female folk musicians in the BBC Folk Award winning collective ‘Songs of Separation’.

Michael Starkey is a multi-instrumentalist, music teacher and old time banjo enthusiast living in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The two met at an Appalachian old time session in Edinburgh in late 2019 and clicked immediately.

They play a repertoire of tradional favourites as well as a handful of newly self-composed tunes.

The album was recorded in the Scottish Borders by Andy Bell over two Winter days in December 2020 and apparently “fuelled by pea soup.”

Its warming effects with or without soup or whiskey are undeniable.
