Review: 'Kilguss, Jessie'
'Sleepwalking Heart'

-  Label: 'Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '17.8.22.'

Our Rating:
Sleepwalking Heart is the second single off of Jessie Kilguss second album What Do Whales Dream About At Night. Jessie is part of the Bushwick Book Club and the record was mixed and mastered by another member of that club Charlie Nieland. As well as being involved in Musicambia who do a lot of outreach work bringing music into American Prisons as a teaching and healing aid.

Sleepwalking Heart is a slow country-tinged lament for a family who lost it all to a fire, a situation that sadly is becoming more common as wild fires become commonplace around the world, as this gently builds with the violin and acoustic guitars building emotion and Jessie's vocals explains just how devastating the family finds it to deal with all they've lost.

Great White Shark is a rather lush and ruminative song of loss and longing for things to be back how they once were, with nods to how The Great White Sharks environment in the ocean is fundamentally just as fragile, right now, as the land we live on, this also reminds me of the last record I reviewed about whales Leanie Kaleido's How To Weigh A Whale Without A Scale sharing a very calming and karmic feel to it musically.
