Our Rating:
This album is by mysterious Austrian Atmospheric Black Dungeon Synth band Wuodan's Wunde, who prefer to remain anonymous and to not interact via modern means such as social media, this may be as they have day jobs in Schlager bands and boy band's or it could be to keep this as dark foreboding and mysterious as possible.

The album really needs to be heard on Vinyl rather than digital, the LP is packaged like it is from a dark horror movie set in the Middle Ages, a feeling accentuated by the silk screen prints included with the vinyl.

Es Glimmt Empor Aus Ewger Nacht translates into English as It Glows Upwards From Eternal Night and is in five movements.

The first movement slowly fades in with careful percussion, other worldly voices echoing around the caves beneath the castle. An underlying classical motif gently ambles through the maelstrom of treated voices whispering from the walls Pit & The Pendulum style as strings rise, ingrained pain set against unblemished beauty, a choir arrives from the medieval bowels of Gregorian hell, a slow procession moves out of the maelstrom into a clearing as they march towards a terrible fate.

The Second movement opens with a Glenn Branca style tsunami of strings, with brass puncturing the flesh, hellscape voices imploring more torture, distressing distortions answer your inquisitions in the calm, as the music waves over your prostrate body, Sentence passed in the cacophonous reality, voices in odd places strip you of any voice you may have had. Symphonic tones for torturing distressed bones, stretching skin screams within your well of pain, deep beneath the earth, closing fanfare, time to feast on the victims remains, strings serenading the single drumbeat, pastoral visions ensue as the pain subsides.

The B-side opens with the Third movement as violins lead us down deep into the salt mines, fearful washes of palpitating emissions seep from the walls, as vocals chase through the Dungeon like specters of your worst nightmares. The beautiful undertow becoming ever more disturbing, Timpani signals the long march deep below to the darkest of chambers, Strings and pipers overlay the tortured maelstrom, elegiac tears shed.

The fourth movement slowly leads us into the Gotterdammerung hellscape, frightened cowering against the walls, as those voices whisper your crimes, insanity against the strident strings, drummed cacophony in time with the blows, sad violas lead you out to a life of exile, immense pain and sadness as the music overwhelms everything with Wagnerian symphonic majesty.

The Fifth movement has washes of air rushing by, gentle tones, Bass timpani shakes your core, funereal voices slowly progress, Priests chanting deep within that resonating bass, buzz saw against the grain, pain reigns once more, strings of doom assail that unassailable bass Timpani, ears ring and normality never returns.
