Our Rating:
The Youth Are Getting Restless is a legendary live performance by Bad Brains, recorded and broadcast live by VPRO, capturing the band during there I Against I tour at one of the best music venues in mainland Europe The Paradisio. This release is part of the current re-issue program for all of Bad Brains records.

This opens with the band coming on stage and blasting through I with super-fast drums, wailing guitar and lyrics spat at the audience in a stream of consciousness tirade, with some backing vocals, but damn that guitar solo.

Rock For Light is a perfect song to sing in a former church, with its stained-glass windows painted black, as they Rock For Light at lightning speed.

Right Brigade is a lightning attack, on the mindless right-wing thugs, with nasty as can be hardcore wailing in agony vocals, immense guitar scything through the room.

House Of Suffering isn't the name of one of the red-light district bars they have been hanging out in, but it keeps up the raging hardcore pace, as they don't let up and we remember all the poor unfortunate torture and slavery victims.

Coptic Times is another song perfect for the Church setting, as they take us on a hardcore journey into the medieval church practices with howling feedback, a super swift drum solo, pain bile and disgust seeping from every word sung.

Sacred Love helps to make it feel like they have chosen the setlist on seeing the surroundings they are in, they are getting spiritual with the vibes of that magnificent building they are in. I hope they find the perfect mate for the Sacred Love they sing about.
Re-Ignition is slower more deliberate making the vocals a bit clearer in the mix, as the righteous fury is channeled over the staccato rhythm.

Let Me Help by playing some real fast hardcore at you, let the Bad Brains into your heart and soul, it will all be ok once more, please let them out.

Banned In D.C. is played at it's most bile induced raging best, making sure this anthem of hatred for the treatment the non-establishment classes receives at the hands of Politicians in America is crystal clear. This also has a raging guitar solo and loads of screams and yelps from H.R.

Sailin' On sounds like they want to get on a canal boat out of town, this flies by like they are fried out of their minds on cheap sulphate.

Fearless Vampire Killer is super speedy nasty as hell horror hardcore. It leads into the slow intro to At The Movies, love whatever it is the guitars are doing on this, going wilder and weirder as they live out their own movie scenarios.

Revolution (Dub) brings the heavy dub vibe to a venue that has hosted many Reggae greats, this skanks like a Gregory Issacs dub plate played live, the slower pace and clearer vocals stand out as they give us there call for revolution and peace and love for all of Jah's children.

Pay To Cum is an obvious song to sing in Amsterdam when you're not too far from the red-light district, this spits bile fury and rage at the indignity they face in a whirlwind of hardcore guitars with nosebleed drums.

The album closes with the guitar strafing intro to Big Takeover leading to the full-on blasting crustcore of anti-corporatist takeover they would love to happen, sadly we are still in need of the Big Takeover, one day if we are lucky this will come true, until then listen to Bad Brains while keeping the dream alive.
